Great Taste Award 2014 – Gold Star for Latimers Roasted Smoked Salmon!

Great Taste Award 2014

The world’s largest blind-tasted food awards Great Taste, has just released the stars of 2014 and Latimers Seafood Deli and Cafe is amongst the producers celebrating as its Roasted Smoked Salmon is now able to proudly carry the little gold and black Great Taste logo.

“Oh my cod! we can’t believe it, we are so thrilled to have won an award” said Robert Latimer.

“We love eating our own in-house Roasted Smoked Salmon and know our customers do too, so to have it acknowledged amongst the greatest tasting products this country has to offer is really quite something for our small family business.  Whelk done to the team, we entered just for the halibut and thought we had a cat(fish) in hell’s chance of winning and musselling out the competition…!

As the awards are judged blind we decided to enter our artisan salmon product – because it’s not all about the packaging & branding – it is all about the taste!

We smoke all of our own fish on the premises; soaking the salmon in our secret recipe brine then smoking for 36 hours using oak and beach sawdust…then it is roasted, resulting in a delicious ready to eat, melt-in the mouth product, with a distinct yet subtle flavour!”

Don’t just take our word for it – this is what the judges said:

Latimers Roasted Smoked Salmon

“A very attractive piece of salmon with a good colour crust, the inside a pale pink and succulently moist. This has a lovely texture: excellent, big flakes of fish that are moist and rich. The smoke level is just right – more a whiff than a bonfire – a really lovely balance. Well made.

We agree that the smokiness and flavours are just right here, and deliciously moist. Terrific salmon.”

A previously experienced salmon farmer and lone – creel fisherman off the west coast of Scotland, Robert implicitly understands the importance of sourcing the finest sustainable fish. It’s 12 years since owner Robert Latimer opened Latimers Seafood at Whitburn.  Since then the business has gone from strength to strength and is now synonymous with seafood lovers as the plaice to go for the freshest local catches of seafood, superb variety and friendly expertise.
