Humbled and Honoured

Coming second as Most Supportive Employer Award at The National Autism Awards has been a thoroughly humbling experience for us.  To sit at The Awards in The Royal Hall, Harrogate surrounded by inspirational people, who go well above and beyond the call of duty in their daily lives was, quite frankly, overwhelming – and to have been shortlisted alongside them – we feel truly honoured.

Robert and I felt that we were just getting on with our daily loads to manage our Seafood business and team of staff. Sophie is brilliant; a warm, bubbly lass who – to us – just happens to live with Aspergers. To us no biggy – she interviewed for a weekend job very well, was excellent on her trial day, enthusiastic and willing to work – what more can any employer want? Yes sometimes we need to spend a little extra time to support her (most staff need support at some point), but to us, having someone who wants to work and has skills we need (not just selling fish – she’s great at helping us out of our little digital / technological conundrums / social media posts as well) is, quite simply, what we are looking for in all our staff.

Our sincere thanks goes to The Gray Family, firstly for trusting us with their most precious and wonderful daughter Sophie and secondly for taking the time and effort to nominate us for The Most Supportive Employer Award.

Sometimes we all have bad day’s – well if you need pick-me-up can I suggest clicking on this link to read about the inspirational people and why they were shortlisted for an award by The National Autistic Society, it was a privilege to be allowed to sit beside them.
